Not a playground. Not a Museum. Not a zoo. Something entirely new.
Rope & Oak Children's Nature Park is a 12-acre outdoor adventure experience set in an old growth forest just 10 minutes south of Fargo.
With over 50 hands-on attractions, kids can climb, dig, build, and explore - all while learning about nature along the way.
Follow a half-mile trail filled with stops where families discover North Dakota outdoors, wildlife, and agriculture through movement and play.

In 2025 Dixon & Toria Schwan bought a forest with a vision: to create a magical place where families can unplug and reconnect with nature together.
Now that vision is coming to life - a true outdoor adventure built for exploration, play, and learning.
We can't wait to welcome you this summer.
Find and solve 10 geocache style birdhouse puzzles hidden along the trail. Each puzzle takes 3-5 minutes to solve.
Solve all 10 and you'll unlock a secret code for a free prize at the end of the trail.
Good luck, explorers!

We HIGHLY recommend wearing closed-toe shoes, as there are many uneven and natural surfaces. This is a true outdoor experience - expect some dirt, and wear clothes you don't mind getting a little messy in. Dress for the weather and it never hurts to have an extra layer.
Absolutely! The trail is about a half mile long and there are many stops along the way so having something to hold all your belongings is recommended.
We regularly treat the park to keep pests at a minimum, but bringing bug spray is still a good idea. The forest is well shaded, though some areas are more exposed - sunscreen is recommended on high UV days.
